Recently, the Malaysian government partnered with global chip design giant, UK based AnMo Holdings(Arm Holdings has officially signed a contract to jointly promote Malaysia's ambitious plan to manufacture artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
According to the agreement, Malaysia will fully introduce advanced chip design and technology from AnMo Holdings, aiming to achieveLocalized design, manufacturing, testing, and assembly of AI chips, with plans to sell these products globally. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated at the signing ceremony that this cooperation is an important milestone in the development of Malaysia's semiconductor industry, indicating that the country's semiconductor industry will usher in a second wave of development.
As part of the collaboration, AnMou Holdings will establish its first Southeast Asian office in Kuala Lumpur to further expand into markets such as ASEAN, Australia, and New Zealand. This will not only bring advanced semiconductor technology and design concepts to Malaysia, but also promote technology exchange and cooperation between regions.
According to Economy Minister Rafez, Malaysia will pay AnMou Holdings in the next decade250 million US dollars to acquire intellectual property rights for a range of semiconductor related equipment and technologies, and to train approximately 10000 engineers. This measure aims to enhance the technological level and competitiveness of local semiconductor companies in Malaysia, laying a solid foundation for the long-term development of the country's semiconductor industry.
Malaysia is currently the sixth largest semiconductor exporting country in the world, occupying approximately the global semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging market13% share and contributing 7% of global semiconductor production. This cooperation with AnMou Holdings will further consolidate Malaysia's position in the global semiconductor industry and is expected to drive the country's breakthrough progress in the field of AI chips.
In addition, the Malaysian government plans to produce its own graphics processors in the next five to ten years(We hope to cultivate 10 local chip companies with annual revenue of 1.5 billion to 2 billion US dollars through this cooperation, using GPU chips. This will help promote the diversified development of the Malaysian economy and create more job opportunities.
